Extended Family upholds a mission, “To offer help and inspire hope,” for families dealing with incarceration.  As a community-based nonprofit organization, we understand that fulfilling our mission requires strong partnerships with supporters from across the country, particularly from our home state of Alabama.  We are fortunate to be reaching more people than ever before who need our programs and services.

Using our “whole family” approach, we are seeing the benefits of our personal and character development lessons on adult and children family members of prisoners, returning citizens who are finishing their sentences and reintegrating into their families and communities, and those individuals who are currently incarcerated.

Meeting the needs of so many families necessitates expanding our team.  We are looking for people with a heart for helping others to add to our team of Program Leaders.  It is important that we have our team in place and trained so that we are ready for the upcoming school year.

One of our Program Leaders, Leslie Mobbs, describes what leading Extended Family for Kids in schools has meant to her, “The most rewarding part for me is watching the kids bond over similar situations that without EFK (a safe, small group setting specifically for children with a loved one incarcerated) would leave kids continuing to feel alone in their situation.  These children need to know that there are others going through similar situations and that they have a safe place where they can talk unjudged, and that what they share will not be repeated outside of the group.”

Leslie, a mom of four young children, appreciates the flexibility of part-time hours as a Program Leader, “EFK has allowed me to be able to pursue a passion I have of helping others and giving back – although I feel that I get just as much, if not more, from the groups as the kids do!  I am able to lead groups and still be able to be there when my children need my attention or want me at a special event.”

If you have a heart for helping families in crisis, please visit our website to learn more about becoming an Extended Family Program Leader, at www.extendedfamilyhelp.org, or email us at info@extendedfamilyhelp.org for additional information or to schedule an interview.  We are deeply grateful for the support of everyone who works with us to change lives, one family at a time.
