Extended Family for Kids (EFK) is an evidence-based program for children ages kindergarten through 12th grades who have any loved one who is currently or has ever been incarcerated.  EFK provides children with instruction for physical, mental, and moral development with lessons on stress reduction, expressing anger appropriately, and creating positive relationships with law enforcement.

Extended Family partners with schools and community agencies to provide training to adults who work with children to become Program Leaders for Extended Family for Kids.  Extended Family for KIds Program Leader Training is a one-day training, which we provide in your community, and includes the nine-lesson curriculum guide.    In addition to teaching all of the interactive lessons and activities from the curriculum guide, Extended Family staff also teaches service providers how to identify children for the program and ways to modify the lessons to fit different situations. After training, participants are ready to begin EFK immediately, using handouts from the EFK curriculum guide and basic school supplies.  EFK is designed to be led as one forty-five minute lesson per week for nine weeks, a relatively small investment of time which studies and surveys consistently show help children of all ages be more successful in school with managing stress, improving behavior, building self-confidence, and in getting along with others.

We offer Extended Family for Kids Program Leader Training beginning in April.  Training dates are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.  More information is available on our website, www.extendedfamilyhelp.org, or by calling 256-927-3038.  Contact us to schedule an introductory meeting to answer questions about the training and the Extended Family for Kids Program.  Our goal is to bring EFK into every community to every child who needs it.  Partnerships with other caring adults is one way we accomplish our goal and fulfill our mission, “To offer help and inspire hope.”
